C G31/7/20

Ferdinand Magellan was a Portuguese explorer often credited as being the first person to have circumnavigated the globe.
In 1519, he led a crew with the mission to find a western route to  Indonesia, the then spice-rich country in the East Indies.

Unfortunately, Magellan was killed during what is called  the Battle of Mactan in thePhilippine islands.

The surviving crew returned to Spain in 1522 after 3 years of sailing. To immortalise the perious sea venture, a small terrestrial globe made.

Having read this story, one could easily imagine that Magellan could not complete the expedition he organised.
However, he is considered to be one of the greater explorer the world has ever known.
